Come on baby light my lamp

Ben built me this beautiful lamp stand a while go and ever since I've been looking for a nice round lampshade to put on it. Finally I found a decent priced one in the lighting store down the road (love discount stock!).

I wanted to jazz it up a bit so using a project from 'Printing by Hand' Ben and I set to work.

Ben traced out the stencils using his steady hand skills and I pasted them onto the lampshade. We sprayed it with light blue spray paint, waited for it to dry, peeled off the stencils and volia! Cloudy, blue-sky lamp shade.

I finished my birthday dress just in time to wear it to the opera Friday night and again for Saturday night dinner.
Luckily remembered to snap a picture at the station!

Pattern: Colette Macaron
Fabric: blue cotton - Jack textiles Marrickille ~$3
Blue spotty something or other - Fabric Cave ~8
Notions: Zipper
Wear again?: yes yes yes!

Sunday I baked a lemon and peach cake using a lovely recipe from my new Donna Hay cookbook from Megan.

Mmmmm delicious!

Moving day

On the weekend the lovely Megan moved out of our house and into a lovely place around the corner.

We helped pack up some of her bits and pieces that were at our house ( most were in Canberra), the largest piece being the new wooden sewing table Ben has just made her!

So we strapped the table to the car and drove it to her new place, hoping dearly it would stay put!

Then in the evening we relaxes with strawberry daiquiris. Yummo!

Cooking up a storm

The other night I cooked finished work early so decided to cook up a treat for me and Megan. I used a delicious stuffed eggplant recipe from Smitten Kitchen. It was a super easy recipe and turned out AH-MUZING!

Then I finished off these little hanging birds for Ben's niece's birthday (she's two!). I found a bird outline on the net, using some scrap fabric cut the outlines out of different colours ( I went with two white, two red).

Sewed the lace on for wings and buttons for eyes, stitched around the outside, stuffed and volia! Little birds!

I had some old beads I was given when we were doing a work clean-out so used these for in between the birds.

They turned out beautiful!

The Great Escape

Ben and I decided to make the most of a long weekend and escape to the coast. Of course, it bucketed down but thus just gave me a chance to start my new dress, the Colette Macaron and play on my new toy ( early bday present from ben).

Kindle! I am now officially a Kindle convert. Really loving having books with me all the time.

We also went fishin'!

Caught two delicious fish

Then dropped into Ben's folks house on the way back. Here's their rooster:
